Who Am I?
Hi, my name is Tess Humowitz and I am currently a sophomore music education major at Coastal Carolina University. I was born and raised in Georgetown, South Carolina and I currently reside in Conway, South Carolina. In addition to being a student at Coastal Carolina University, I am also a member of the Chanticleer Regiment, a mentor for the Dalton and Linda Floyd Mentoring Program, and a South Carolina Teaching Fellow. This Weebly page is to display work for my Education 204 class, which is helping me learn how to integrate technology into my future lesson plans/classroom. I am ecstatic to continue learning how to be the best teacher I can be, so I can soon accomplish my long-time goal of becoming an elementary music teacher.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that the child should always come before the curriculum. The point of going to school is not to only gain knowledge of academics, but to learn about yourself and how you function with others. A student cannot prosper in an environment where they are not comfortable or happy, and they certainly cannot prosper if they are not being treated for anything in their invisible backpack--whether that be emotional baggage or a disability. Yes, teachers are being paid to teach students about state/national standards, but it is impossible for them to thrive if they are not content. A teacher should strive to do his or her best to cater to every child and what makes unique, so they must appreciate and embrace the diversity within the classroom. A teacher's goal should be to comfort and encourage every and any student in order to unlock their true potential.
